Patricio Orlando, Buenos Aires. Argentina. 1989

As a photographer and cabinetmaker, his professional career has been linked to travelling since childhood.

Educated in bilingual schools in Buenos Aires, he recalls stories of family life in the midst of wood fragrances, landscapes of the mythical Argentinian Patagonia, and the bohemianism of visiting museums, theatres, cinemas, wandering through bookstores of Corrientes Avenue, where he would later go for photography books when his vocation began to arise.

His studies in photography allowed him to experiment with cameras and 35mm development prior to digital techniques in pursuit of a personal style.

In 2017, he began a personal journey that included Oceania and European cities, capturing images of urban landscapes, like street atmospheres and characters that accompanied him on his walkabout around the world.

Australia is a milestone, where he learns traditional woodworking techniques alongside Venetian cabinetmakers (Arteveneta) and creates furniture for designers, wineries, high-end restaurants, and private commissions. There, he acquires experience in production processes, among vineyards and Italian cuisine, surrounded by stories of master artisans. Then, a bit of it all begins to make sense...

During his stay in Barcelona, he gets instructed in local and Belgian craft techniques.

But it is at PPMøbler in Denmark, amidst the production of original pieces by the designer Hans Wegner and images of the artisanal processes, where he develops the motivation to create photographic series, attracted by the diversity of wood grain (oak, walnut, wenge, bubinga), illustrating the direction of the distinct fibres, all of which leads each piece to have its own design, beauty, and personality, acquiring an aesthetic value.
